The big day

Today the girls went in for bilateral cochlear implant surgery. (It was definitely not the route we had planned when we got the girls, but feel that over the past year God has clearly led us to this decision. Long story. I'd be happy to share with you sometime if you're interested.) 13 hours later we're home and the girls are doing well.

Sharing a recovery room. Recovery took a little longer than expected for Ashley. Lots of nausea and vomiting.

Obviously, the nausea is gone, because Ashley was enjoying this cheeseburger that was brought to our room by mistake....She was supposed to be eating chicken soup.

They implanted the internal parts today. Now, we wait a month, and then they get the external parts and have it activated. It is not a quick fix by any means. There will be months of speech therapy to learn how to listen/speak at some level.
