Rollin', Rollin', Roland....
Roland and I found rollerblades at a garage sale this weekend and decided to buy them so we could join the kids. Both of us grew up rollerskating, but neither of us had ever been on rollerblades. Roland, being the sports guy that he is, was a natural from the minute he put on the rollerblades. After much coercing, I finally put mine on and gave it a try. It wasn't exactly pretty, but at least I didn't fall!

The battle for truth...inside my own head
Today, I sent in the first part of our application packet for the adoption (with a check for $1600). Once they receive our packet they will assign us a case worker. It's exciting to get the ball rolling. But I have to admit I have been battling anxiousness and fear too. This is the "conversation" that goes on in my head throughout the day...
"What are you thinking, LaNae? Adoption? Where are you gonna get the money for that? What about that furniture you wanted to buy? Why would you want to adopt now? Life is good... The kids are older, independent. Do you really want to go back to diapers, naps, and high chairs? Another kid (or two) is really going to stretch the budget.."
But, the Holy Spirit keeps reminding me of truth...He keeps bringing to mind Matthew chapter 6... how I am to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness. He has convicted me of my foolish desire to store up treasure on earth (where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.) He has caused me to reflect on His faithfulness and His goodness to us in seminary. He has reminded me that a life of faith is what pleases Him.

All I want for Christmas is....
A New Endeavor
We hit some garage sales this morning and ended up with 3 pairs of rollerblades-one for each of the kids. (Roland and I are holding off on purchasing a pair for ourselves...we'll see how the kids do first.) They were actually very determined to learn to skate and showed a lot of progress today. They even got some tips and encouragement from the neighbors.

Signs of Summer
I think summer is finally here in Spokane! While all of us were outside reading this afternoon I snapped a few pictures that definitely spell s-u-m-m-e-r. Cade found the dragonfly resting on the wall next to the playhouse. I just put up a bird feeder a few days ago and have been waiting to snap a few shots of a bird feeding. And Kailyn, well, that is where she would be all afternoon if I didn't have anything else for her to do! : ) Happy summer!

A step of faith
Today, Roland and I took the first "official" step toward an international adoption. We filled out the registration packet and plunked down $200. I know it's a small amount in the big scheme of things (total cost: approx. $20,000), yet it felt like a big step of faith for me.
Our family has talked and prayed about adoption for several years. We looked into foster adopt and didn't feel like that was the route for us. After a fair amount of research and much prayer, we have decided to pursue adopting a toddler-aged child from the Philippines.
We'd appreciate your prayers as we begin this long, emotional, expensive, faith-stretching process!

Off to Nebraska!
The house is a little quieter today. It's just the girls. Cade is in Nebraska! He flew out this morning with Seth, his cousin, and grandma and grandpa. My dad grew up in Nebraska and still has family there. My parents took Kailyn to the old homestead a few years ago, so it was finally Cade's turn to do the big trip with grandma and grandpa. He's been so excited...counting down the days. They will stay with my aunt and uncle, visit the old farm where my dad grew up, as well as go to a couple pioneer museums. We miss him already!
